An introductory course dealing with the elementary principles of human behavior. Designed especially for those students majoring in the social or biological sciences.

 ENGL 1301 Composition and Rhetoric Credit: 3

Composition, oral and written; readings in modern prose. Emphasis on language study and the mechanics of writing. Emphasis on short composition. All students are required to achieve a departmentally approved score on a proficiency test before credit for the course may be awarded.

 BIOL 2401 Human Anatomy and Physiology I Credit: 4

A study of the structure and function of the human body. Emphasis will be given to the study of cells and tissues and anatomical and physiological interrelationships of the skeletal, muscular, nervous and endocrine systems. Designed primarily for students entering health careers.

 BIOL 2402 Human Anatomy and Physiology II Credit: 4

A continuation of BIOL 2401. Emphasis will be given to the study of the anatomical and physiological interrelationships of the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, reproductive and excretory systems. Designed primarily for students entering health careers.

 PSYC 2314 Life Span and Development Credit: 3

A study of development from conception to death with emphasis on factors which influence growth and development. Consideration will be given to social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth and development at each period of the life-span.

 SPCH 1318 Interpersonal Communication Credit: 3

Interpersonal Communication focuses on the complex process of person-to-person communication. The course is designed to facilitate the student's conscious awareness of the impact of messages, verbal and nonverbal, sent and received by him/her.

OTHA1301 Introduction to Occupational Therapy Credit: 3

Introduction to the historical development and philosophy of the profession of occupational therapy. Emphasis on the roles and functions of the occupational therapy assistant in current health care environments including moral, legal, and ethical issues.

 

OTHA 1315 Therapeutic Use of Occupations or Activities I Credit: 3

 Various occupations or activities used as therapeutic interventions in occupational therapy. Emphasis on awareness of activity demands, contexts, adapting, grading, and safe implementation of occupations or activities.

OTHA 1309 Human Structure and Function in Occupational Therapy Credit: 3

Study of the biomechanics of human motion. Emphasis on the musculoskeletal system including skeletal structure, muscles and nerves, and biomechanical assessment procedures.

OTHA 2331 Physical Function in Occupational Therapy Credit: 3

Apply selected frames of reference to promote physical function; demonstrate proficiency in selected occupational therapy assessment procedures for physical function; exhibit proficiency in planning and implementation of intervention strategies; demonstrate effective documentation skills; and analyze client factors that influence physical function.

Study of the pathology and general health management of diseases and injuries across the lifespan encountered in occupational therapy treatment settings. Topics include etiology, symptoms, and the physical and psychological reactions to diseases and injuries.

OTHA 2309 Mental Health in Occupational Therapy Credit: 3

Promotion of mental health through occupational therapy. Emphasis on theory and intervention strategies to enhance occupational performance.

OTHA 2302 Therapeutic Use of Occupations or Activities II Credit: 3

Continuation of OTHA 1315/1415: Therapeutic Use of Occupations or Activities I. Emphasis on advanced techniques and applications used in traditional and non-traditional practice settings.

OTHA 1319  Therapeutic Interventions I Credit: 3

Concepts, techniques, and assessments leading to proficiency in skills and activities used as treatment interventions in occupational therapy (OT). Emphasizes the Occupational Therapy Assistant's role in the OT process.

OTHA 2335 Healthcare Management in Occupational Therapy Credit: 3

Explores the roles of the occupational therapy assistant in health care  delivery. Emphasis on documentation, occupational therapy standards and ethics, health care team role delineation, and management.
